Senior level Security Engineer to support the Burean of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Burean of Indian Education (BIE) CIRT systems engineering efforts and directly support the BIA watch team systems. Designs, analyzes, implements and tests software/hardware systems. Provides technical support (including on-call as required) to evaluate problems and provide technical solutions. Participates in meetings, focus groups and configuration boards to ensure client and component agency needs are met. Researches, evaluates, designs, tests, recommends, communicates, and implements new security software or devices. Implements, communicates, and may develop network security approaches for data, software applications, hardware, and computer installations. Responsible for evaluating network security systems (IDS/IPS, Snort), Centralized Logging systems (Syslog) and other information systems. Provides technical consultation in new systems development, new package evaluations and enhancements of existing systems. Prepares functional specifications from which systems will be procured and implemented. Participates in the technical design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of systems deployment and enhancements. Plans, schedules and conducts systems tests, monitors test results, and takes appropriate corrective action. Prepare technical user guides. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. May need to support CSIRT personnel with intrusion analysis as necessary.
